Shahnaaz Mason
Founder
Shahnaaz Mason served four years in the US Army before going to college at Howard University on the GI Bill. She is married to her college sweetheart, Dr. Gary Mason, II who is a combat veteran who served in the US Army Infantry for 15 years before being forced to medically retire for reporting racism he experienced and witnessed while on active duty. After experiencing both the joys and the challenges of military service, and supporting her husband through racial trauma, Shahnaaz founded Thriving on the Homefront. She wanted to create a lasting community to provide healing and support to a neglected community of veterans and their families–so they could not just survive military racism, but thrive in the next chapter of life.
